Materials
The equipment that you need is relatively cheap and available
in shops or by mail order. Use the following check list
to get you started:
Knitting Needles
Lots of types and sizes. I use size 19 needles for all
my patterns. They will need to be bought at a specialist
shop, fair or by mail order.
Crochet Hooks
These can be bought at most craft and knitting shops.
I tend to use a crochet edging when a knitted one is inappropriate.
The most common size that I use is a 0.60.
Thread
I use DMC cotton and Gutermann Silk but there are many
other types available in craft shops and by mail order.
See the pattern details for a description of what thread
has been used.
Patterns
I design and sell my own range of patterns for babies.
They can be bought at fairs and by mail order.
Dolls
I have designed and written each pattern with a specific
doll in mind. (see Doll Supplier) If you are making an
outfit for a different doll, you may need to make adjustments
to the number of stitches and/or rows especially around
the neck, armholes and chest. Dolls are optional, but
are usually made of porcelain with joints at the shoulders
and hips.
Tension
Using DMC 100 Cordonnet and knitting in stocking stitch,
my tension is approximately 10 rows and 8sts to 1cm.
