Materials - Threads
My patterns and most of my readymade outfits are made
using DMC cotton and Gutermann silk threads, both of which
are available in craft and sewing machine shops throughout
the U.K.
Gutermann Silk
Gutermann
silk is used in machine embroidery and is slightly finer
than DMC 100 Cordonnet although it can be used as a substitute
for it in most patterns. It is more difficult to work
with, but drapes beautifully and is available in a good
range of colours.
Each small spool will make one or two outfits.
DMC 100 Cordonnet
DMC
100 Cordonnet is a lacemaking thread that unfortunately
is only available in a limited number of colours (two
shades of white and ecru - see photo left.) I use it mainly
for gowns where the material needs to drape. Each 20g
ball will make up to ten outfits.
DMC 80 Fila Dentelles
DMC 80 Fila Dentelles is a fine crochet thread available
in many colours. I use it for suits and short dresses
where colour is needed, but it's not necessary to hang
well.
Each ball will make up to five outfits.
The DMC code number is with each colour to help when
ordering readymade outfits from my patterns.
